Dr. Grieger completed 30 years of active duty and retired as a Navy Captain in October 2007. He is Board Certified in clinical and forensic psychiatry and has over 20 years of clinical and forensic experience. He has been appointed as an expert consultant in over 80 military felony trials.
Dr. Grieger has extensive clinical experience with substance abusing patients and victims of trauma. He also has extensive research experience with victims exposed to psychological trauma from war, terrorism, and disasters.
Dr. Grieger serves as an unbiased consultant and psychiatric expert for either prosecution or defense. His credentials in clinical work, research and education include numerous publications and presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He routinely lectures at the Naval Justice School and attorney courses sponsored by the military services and other orgainzations. His work has been cited in USA Today and the Orange County Register and he has been interviewed on National Public Radio regarding his research on the effects of trauma on illness and function.
His testimony was pivotal in the acquittal of two Marines charged with murder during their deployments in Iraq.
Dr. Grieger is a senior scientist at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress Studies and was formerly the Senior Scientific Advisor to the Department of Defense Center of Excellence on Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury during the initial establishment of that command.
Dr. Grieger has served as a consultant to Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Army and Coast Guard courts martial.
Dr. Grieger has served as a consultant to the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association on matters of interrogation of detainees.
